The young national champions in cycling

The VSS/Raiffeisen Youth Trophy national championship was held in the sports zone of Pichl Gsies for the 20th time. On Saturday, August 31, the disciplines Dual Slalom and Easy Down were held, while on Sunday, September 1, the Cross Country discipline was on the program. Around 15 children took part in the 1.300 races this year with their bicycles. "We are delighted to see so many children and young people at the starting line every year," says Erwin Schuster, VSS representative for cycling. During the season, the obstacle and eliminator race disciplines were also raced. In two categories, two children each managed to take home all three national championship titles. Tina Thaler and Tommy Lechner from ASC Sarntal Raiffeisen Rad took first place in the baby category in all three disciplines. Marie Kirchler (Amateur Bike Club Klausen) and Julian Martinelli (KSV For Fun Cycling Team) also won all three trophies in the Pupils 2 age group. In addition to Erwin Schuster, the mayor of the municipality of Gsies Paul Schwingshackl, the sports representative of the municipality of Gsies Katja Schuster, the chairman of the Raiffeisenkasse Welsberg-Gsies-Taisten Andreas Sapelza and the president of the FCI South Tyrol Paolo Appoloni also congratulated. They all also helped to hand over the prizes to the young riders. Last weekend, the young South Tyrolean cyclists competed for the 2024 VSS/Raiffeisen Youth Trophy national championship title in Pichl Gsies, with the children proving their skills in fast-paced races.
