A local hero triumphs at the Giro

The women's Giro d'Italia concluded on Sunday. A local hero secured the overall victory.

Local hero Elisa Longo Borghini won the Giro d'Italia again last year. The 33-year-old from the UAE racing team maintained her lead on the hilly final day from Forli to Imola (134 km) ahead of Swiss rider Marlen Reusser (Movistar) and Australian Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance). The stage was won by German Liane Lippert (Movistar).

Austrian Fenix riders Christina Schweinberger and Carina Schrempf, as expected, did not finish the eight-day Tour of Italy, which featured three mountain finishes, among the leading group despite numerous support services. Schweinberger, however, had achieved top-ten finishes in the opening time trial and on a flat stage.
