European Youth Championships in Graz: Greta Weithaler wins the technology competition

The mountain bike combination is a new discipline in which a technical competition over eight sections is combined with a cross-country race in the Olympic format (XCO). As with the Nordic combination, the participants start the XCO race using the Gundersen method with the points deficit converted to seconds from the technical competition.

Weithaler made two more mistakes in the technical competition than the Austrian Marina Oberhofer and therefore started the race 40 seconds behind. With the second fastest time of 46.37,8:47.17,8 minutes, the woman from Vinschger secured victory with a total time of 45.45,1:50 minutes. Second place went to Austrian Nadja Heigl, who set the best time in the XCO race (48.32,0), but was almost XNUMX seconds behind Weithaler. Bronze went to Bavarian Sofia Wiedenroth (XNUMX). Among the boys of the same age, Andrea Dori came eleventh as the best South Tyrolean, Dominik Gschnell was 15th and Johannes von Klebelsberg reached the finish line in 31st place. The victory here went to the Austrian Florian Gruber (37.54,7 minutes).

Greta Seiwald narrowly missed the podium in the girls (U15) category. She came fourth with a total time of 39.46,7:37.47,1 minutes. The German Hannah Grobert (17) took gold ahead of Lisa Neuemüller, who started for Bavaria, and the Austrian Franziska Egarter. Carolin Lutz from the Ötzi Bike Team South Tyrol took XNUMXth place.

The young men in the U15 age group of the South Tyrol team, Moritz Plaikner and Michael Arnold, took 12th and 13th place respectively. Better was Manuel Zwischenbrugger from the Ötzi Bike Team South Tyrol, who came eleventh. Toni Partheymüller emerged as the winner. The Bavarian crossed the finish line in 31.09,1:XNUMX minutes.

On Thursday the World Championships continue with a cross-country X-Large race, while on Friday the title fights will conclude with an Olympic-format cross-country race (XCO). The overall winner from all four competitions becomes European champion.
