The European Mountain Bike Championships for marathon specialists took place on Sunday in the Spanish autonomous region of Cantabria. Fabian Rabensteiner from South Tyrol was a strong contender. The rider from Villanders has already won several European Championship medals in his career. However, he had bad luck on Sunday.
Rabensteiner suffered two flat tires. This cost the 35-year-old a great chance at a medal, as he was at the front of the pack at the start of the race. He ultimately finished in 21st place. Jakob Dorigoni from Pfatten finished two positions ahead of him.
The victory went to Spaniard David Valero Serrano, who prevailed against Italian Gioele De Cosmo and Pole Krysztof Lukasik. In the women's competition, the victory went to Swiss Anna Weinbeer.
