Cyclists once again have three routes to choose from – this time we are presenting the classic distance (60 km/1570 hm).
It all began in the summer of 1995 with the "shortest" of the three routes offered at the South Tyrol Dolomiti Superbike. Back then, in the era of heavy iron bikes, 60 kilometers and almost 1600 meters of elevation gain were the ultimate challenge for bikers. In the years that followed, the bikes became increasingly lighter, while the routes became longer and more difficult.
Nevertheless, the classic distance has been retained at the South Tyrol Dolomiti Superbike. This is also because it's still no picnic and requires extensive preparation in the form of sufficient training sessions prior to the race. Every mountain biker knows that 60 kilometers and almost 1600 meters of elevation gain aren't something you can complete in passing—even if you're optimally cared for at the various refreshment stations by the numerous, very friendly volunteers and cheered on by the thousands of spectators along the route.
A ride in a majestic mountain world
On their 60-kilometer ride on their bikes through the heart of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region, the endurance athletes can look forward to tough climbs and rapid descents, with the majestic mountain scenery of this beautiful part of South Tyrol constantly in view. The partly untouched nature invites you to linger, even though the participants are aware that in the fight against the stopwatch, every minute, even every second, counts. The start is early Saturday morning, July 12, in the center of Niederdorf. The bikers then ride the classic distance over the Egger Berg, Stadlern, and Wahlen to Toblach, from there continuing to Lake Toblach and Schluderbach up to the Plätzwiesen, before the long descent past the Brückele to the finish in Niederdorf begins. There, the finishers will be welcomed like legends, in keeping with the motto "Explore the Legend."
Fontana and Ciuffini the defending champions
Last year, Klaus Fontana from Olang (2:23.02) won the classic distance race for the men and Chiara Ciuffini of Italy (2:54.44) won the women's race. They are thus the defending champions at the 30th edition of the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike. The classic distance race can also be tackled on an e-bike or gravel bike, an option increasingly being embraced by endurance athletes.Edit Profile
