Mountain Bike World Championship: Bronze for Italy – Seiwald beaten

At the Mountain Bike World Championships in Andorra on Sunday, Italy won a medal in the women's elite competition. South Tyrol's participant Greta Seiwald, however, was unable to win anything.

Greta Seiwald finished 7.25 minutes behind and in 39th place. The Pustertal native had nothing to do with the top field. Behind Chiara Teocchi (29th) and Martina Berta, Seiwald was the third best from the Azzurri team.

It was this same Berta who won bronze for Italy. Behind the Dutch Puck Pieterse (gold) and Anne Terpstra (silver), Berta fought a thrilling battle for third place. In the end, the 3-year-old narrowly beat the South African Candice Lill.

Hatherly wins the men’s race

In the men's race, however, South Africa won gold. Alan Hatherly won with a 22-second lead over Victor Koretzky (FRA) and Thomas Pidcock (GBR/bronze). The best Italian was Luca Braidot in 6th place. There were no South Tyroleans at the start.

Isabella Holmgren from Canada won the women's U23 category. The Frenchman Luca Martin won the men's category. South Tyrolean Elian Paccagnella finished the World Championship race in 18th place.
