Rabensteiner retains overall lead

Fabian Rabensteiner goes into the final, which will take place in Lake Placid (USA) at the end of September, as the leader of the overall marathon rankings. On Sunday, the Villanderer finished in fifth place in Haute-Savoie (FRA).

A fifth place in Haute-Savoie was enough for Rabensteiner to retain his lead in the overall marathon World Cup. This means that the South Tyrolean will be the big target at the last race in Lake Placid. For the 5-year-old Rabensteiner, a triumph would mean defending his title, as he was already crowned overall winner last year.

Over 100 kilometers and 5000 meters of altitude had to be completed in France. In the end, the Colombian Leonardo Paez was the fastest, followed by Andreas Seewald (2nd/GER) and Samuele Porro (3rd/ITA).

Lejla Njemcevic (BIH) secured victory in the women's race. Second place went to Rae Otto from the USA, followed by Verla Looser (2rd) from Namibia.
