How to become a legend at the Dolomiti Superbike

Anyone who, after 123 kilometers and 3400 meters of elevation gain, rolls through the finish line on Frau-Emma-Straße in Niederdorf, arms outstretched, and after a brief cheer, can rightly be celebrated as a legend. The longest of the three routes offered at the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike is a real challenge and demands everything from the participating cyclists.

The reward is, without a doubt, a breathtaking adventure in the heart of the Dolomites – but what matters most are the admiring glances of the other bikers. From those who have themselves succumbed to the fascination of the Dolomiti Superbike. And even more so from those who would like to experience this exhilaration themselves but haven't yet been able to bring themselves to participate.

A great mountain panorama is guaranteed.

"The numbers are quite impressive, and you have to imagine it: Three marathons are completed on bikes, while at the same time, the participants are 'climbing' a mid-3000-meter peak. And not on a paved road, but partly in high alpine terrain. Stamina, technical skill, resilience, and sometimes even the ability to push yourself or at least push yourself beyond your limits – all of this is required if you want to successfully complete the long-distance Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike," says Kurt Ploner. And the organizing committee head should know, after all, he has been organizing the renowned MTB marathon with numerous loyal companions since the first edition in 1995.

This is the long distance at the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike After starting in Niederdorf, participants follow the Dobbiaco High Trail to the Silvesteralmmoos, then descend the Walderweg and Jaufenstraße road to Versciaco and along the Drava River to San Candido. From the market town, the route continues along the Sexten stream toward Sesto, before reaching the turnoff to the mountaineering village.

From there, the climb continues to the Rudi Hut at Rotwand, then on to the Kreuzberg Pass, then back down the valley on the opposite slope toward Sexten and then on toward San Candido. After another climb up to the Haunold Hut, a rapid descent to San Candido follows. Once the cyclists have left Toblach behind, they continue along the old railway line toward Cortina all the way to Schluderbach.

Finally, the final major challenge awaits the cyclists: the serpentine climb up to the Dürrenstein Hut. Now they have their sights set on the finish line: "All that's left" is the descent through the picturesque Plätzwiesen meadows to Schmieden, and from there to the finish in Niederdorf.
