Pogacar wins the next stage of the tour

The Slovenian also won the first mountain stage on La Planche des Belles Filles on Friday, one day after his triumph in Longwy. Pogacar came ahead of the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and twelve seconds ahead of his compatriot Primoz Roglic. In the overall standings he now leads 35 seconds ahead of Vingegaard and 1:10 minutes ahead of Briton Geraint Thomas. However, Pogacar did not pull away irresistibly from his opponents on the fierce final climb. The overall winner of the last two years led the group with the favorites from the front over the last kilometers. Last year's runner-up Vingegaard attacked 150 m from the finish, but Pogacar countered in the up to 24 percent steep section and overtook the Dane shortly before the finish line. Except for Vingegaard, all competitors lost time. In the overall standings, the captain of the UAE Emirates team extended the lead over Vingegaard to 35 seconds thanks to the time bonus. Bitter for Kämna The finale of the 176 km long stage was particularly bitter for Lennard Kämna. As an outlier, German Bora teammate Konrads was very close to his second victory of the day in the Tour of France. Kämna had separated himself from his last escape companions on the seven-kilometer climb, but narrowly missed out. Around 100 m from the finish, Kämna was caught and overtaken by Pogacar and Vingegaard and then also by Roglic. The 25-year-old only had fourth place. The other outliers had already been swallowed up by the group of favorites. On Saturday the tour entourage will travel back to Switzerland for the first time in six years and the stage finishes in Bern. From Dole in France it goes via the Jura and Vaud to Lausanne, where, after 186,3 km and an uphill finale, it's not an easy arrival for the riders.
