Anna Oberparleiter misses out on a World Championship medal

The eyes of the mountain biking world are on Sulzberg (Trentino) this week, where the World Championships are being held. A South Tyrolean rider narrowly missed out on a medal on Wednesday.

Fourth place is the most thankless position at a World Championship. And yet, there's always someone who has to swallow that bitter pill. At the Mountain Bike World Championships, that was Anna Oberparleiter: The 35-year-old finished fourth in the e-bike competition. She missed the bronze medal by one minute.

At the start of the race, Oberparleiter was in third place, but then the Olang native was pushed back. Ultimately, in the small field of participants (nine starters), she didn't win a medal. "Nevertheless, it was a great experience," said Oberparleiter.

The victory went to Austrian Anna Spielmann, who prevailed against Kathrin Stirnemann (Switzerland) and Tamara Wiedmann (Austria). In the men's competition, Frenchman Jerome Gilloux emerged victorious.
