Former world champion Pedersen drops out of Tour de France

On Saturday morning it was announced that a former cycling world champion will no longer ride in the Tour de France.

Shortly before the start of the eighth stage of the 111th Tour de France, former world champion Mads Pedersen dropped out due to the consequences of a fall three days earlier. His team Lidl-Trek announced this on Saturday. The 28-year-old fought through the following days of racing, but the pain in his left shoulder did not improve. In his career so far, he has celebrated two stage victories in the Tour de France.

Pedersen, who became world champion in England in 2019, is only the third rider to have to get off his bike after about a third of the three-week tour. Previously, his compatriot Casper Pedersen and Michele Gazzoli from the team led by British stage win record holder Mark Cavendish had left the tour.
