Cheers and anger at Ritten are close together

A total of 165,2 km had to be covered. The Ritten Arena was the destination of the second stage. To get there, the professional cyclists had to overcome numerous hurdles on Tuesday. The old Brenner road and the famous border pass brought the race back to South Tyrol. From Brenner we went to Brixen. A first short climb took the athletes to Feldthurns, followed by the more demanding climb from Barbian. From there it was another 18km to the finish, most of it uphill, with the second mountain classification of the day on Mittelberg just 4km from the finish.

In the end, Tao Geoghegan Hart (INEOS Grenadiers) took victory again and repeated Monday's success on the second stage. The 28-year-old Brit won the mass sprint on Ritten against two Bahrain Victorious riders. The Australian Jack Haig took second place ahead of the young Colombian Santiago Buitrago, who tried to pull away with a sprint on the climb to Mittelberg. Team INEOS' other athlete, Pavel Sivakov, finished fourth, while Italian Lorenzo Fortunato completed the day's top five. On Tuesday, shortly before the finish of the second section from Reith im Alpbachtal to South Tyrol, the East Tyrolean went down in the leading group in a curve in front of the asphalt track of the Ritten ice skating oval. With a few injuries, he finally finished 29 seconds behind in 21st place; the deficit was later credited back to him. After first aid was given, including stitching up a wound on his elbow, Gall appeared very angry and combative. According to him, dirt on the track led to the fall.
