Michael and Janine Meyer were unbeatable.
Giro delle Dolomiti: A married couple cheers the loudest
The 2025 Giro delle Dolomiti is history! The renowned cycling event in South Tyrol ended with a double victory for the German couple Michael and Janine Meyer from Cologne. While Janine Meyer's overall victory was never in doubt even on the final stage to the Seiser Alm, the men's race saw a duel between Michael Meyer and Georg Widmann from Tramin – with the German coming out on top.

In light rain, Georg Widmann surprised the organizers of the 48th Giro delle Dolomiti before the start at the Bolzano Trade Fair Center. The local hero was also participating in the final stage, despite having announced on Thursday that he would have to pull out due to work commitments. But given the exciting starting position, the Tramin native didn't let the opportunity for a possible overall victory slip away. Widmann was only 25 seconds behind Germany's Michael Meyer; both had each won two stages in the Giro delle Dolomiti up to that point. The final mountain time trial from the info point in St. Valentin up to Compatsch made for a thrilling finale.
Widmann celebrated his third stage win. He crossed the finish line at the Huber Schweige in 21.04:21 minutes. But it wasn't enough for the overall victory, even though it couldn't have been closer. Meyer struggled across the finish line of the 6,2-kilometer, timed section with 530 meters of elevation gain, 48 seconds behind Widmann. This put Meyer four seconds ahead of Widmann in the overall standings and crowned him the winner of the XNUMXth Giro delle Dolomiti.

"Georg (Widmann, editor's note) and I had an incredible duel, and I was delighted when I saw him at the start today. Winning the Giro delle Dolomiti has been my dream for a long time, so I'm super happy now," said a delighted Meyer after the awards ceremony. Widmann, one of the first to congratulate him, acted like a fair loser: "Michael is a worthy overall winner. He's more than ten years older than me and really challenged me. I can only take my hat off to him." Third place in the fifth stage went to Austrian Andreas Crivellin (21.54:XNUMX minutes), who also finished third overall.
Janine Meyer remains flawless
In the women's race, Janine Meyer impressively demonstrated why she was already considered the top favorite before the start of the 48th Giro delle Dolomiti. The Cologne native also won the fifth stage, this time with a time of 22.49:22.54 minutes. Although her German compatriot Julia Jedelhauser was hot on her heels on the fifth stage (2022:XNUMX minutes), overall Meyer left no doubts. This is also reflected in the overall standings: With a lead of more than nine minutes, the XNUMX Giro delle Dolomiti winner was in a class of her own. "I knew I had a good chance of winning. But I also knew I had to be careful of the competition. In the end, it worked out well, which makes me very happy," said Meyer after the Giro delle Dolomiti. The women's podium: Carmen Moser, winner Janine Meyer, and Julia Jedelhauser. © Sportissimus
Jedelhauser, who started as the defending champion, took second place in the rankings. Carmen Moser from Sarnen secured third place, also climbing to the lowest step of the podium in the final stage (23.38).
Famous faces and satisfied organizers
Several prominent figures from winter sports also graced the final stage on the Seiser Alm. Former ski racers Werner Heel and Peter Fill, active ski racer Florian Schieder, snowboarder Aaron March, luge athlete Leon Haselrieder, and telemark skier Raphael Mahlknecht all participated in their home stage; all but Heel, after all, live in a municipality on the high plateau. Rainer Senoner, the head of the legendary Ski World Cup in Val Gardena on the Saslong, also put his foot on the pedals. So did former downhill ace Werner Perathoner and Raimund Plancker, a long-time ski coach and now assistant to the FIS race directors.
Bettina Ravanelli, president of the organizing ASD Giro delle Dolomiti, was also delighted to see these prominent faces. But that wasn't all: "In the end, we were actually lucky with the weather, even though it was a bit wet on Monday and Friday. The most important thing, though, is that no one was injured. I would like to thank all our helpers and especially our sponsors, without whom this Giro delle Dolomiti would never have been possible. My thanks also go to all the security forces and the municipalities who helped us with the necessary road closures. We are already looking forward to the next edition, Giro delle Dolomiti number 49 in summer 2026!"
