Curious: Pogacar loses yellow because of one second

Mathieu van der Poel has reclaimed the yellow jersey at the 112th Tour de France – with a one-second lead.

The Dutch former world champion rode to eighth place in a breakaway group on the sixth stage, covering 201,5 kilometers from Bayeux to Vire-Normandie, overtaking defending champion Tadej Pogacar at the top of the overall standings. The stage victory went to Irishman Ben Healy, who broke away on his own 41 kilometers from the finish.

The day before, van der Poel had lost the yellow jersey to Pogacar in the individual time trial. However, the Slovenian world champion had little interest in defending his yellow jersey in the early stages of the Tour and crossed the finish line with the other contenders 5:27 minutes behind Healy.

On Friday, the favorites could be back in action on the seventh stage. The 197-kilometer route runs from Saint-Malo to Mur-de-Bretagne, including a two-kilometer final climb with an average gradient of 6,9 percent.
