Shortly before the start of the tour: Pogacar infected with corona virus

Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar is considered the big favorite for the Tour de France, which begins on Saturday. His preparations have been turbulent at times.

Cycling star Tadej Pogacar had to fight a corona infection ten days before the Tour de France. "I have recovered well. Covid is no longer as serious as it was back then. I already had the virus. The body gets used to it. It wasn't that bad and passed quickly," said the Slovenian at a press conference in Florence on Thursday. He only took a one-day break in total, after which he rode a little on the roller.

The two-time Tour de France winner is the big favorite going into the Tour de France, which begins on Saturday. After winning the Giro d'Italia, the 25-year-old is aiming for a double, something that Italian Marco Pantani last achieved in 1998. "It's a big challenge, I love challenges. Nothing is easy in cycling," said Pogacar.

Pogacar has defending champion Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark in mind, despite his serious fall in the Tour of the Basque Country. "I think he's ready, otherwise he wouldn't be here," said the UAE captain. Vingegaard suffered several broken ribs, a bruised lung and a pneumothorax in his fall in April.
