After the death of a 19-year-old: This is how things will proceed in Portugal

The Tour of Portugal will continue following the tragic death of Welsh cycling talent Finlay Tarling. Organizers announced that the race will proceed without any further events on the final two days, following a memorial service on Saturday.

"There will be sporting competition, but no celebrations," it was stated. The NSN Development Team, for which 19-year-old Tarling rode, will no longer participate.

The professional team, however, will continue to participate in the Tour of the Czech Republic and the Arctic Race of Norway "with the full support of Fin's parents." "We will continue to carry Fin in our hearts as we race in his honor and do what he loved most," the team said in a social media post.

Tarling died on Friday as a result of a serious accident. According to media reports, the younger brother of World Tour professional cyclist Joshua Tarling was struck by a vehicle not involved in the race during the eighth stage from Melgaco to Fafe. This vehicle was reportedly traveling in the opposite direction to the peloton. This has not yet been confirmed by the organizers.

"This is not the time for speculation about the circumstances of the accident. The incident is being investigated by the National Guard, which is responsible for a thorough investigation of the facts," the organizer stated.
