After wife's death: Ex-rad star faces 15 years in prison

Australian former professional cyclist Rohan Dennis appeared in court two and a half months after the death of his wife Melissa Hoskins.

The two-time time trial world champion faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and driving without due care before the Adelaide Magistrates Court. The former cyclist Hoskins was hit by a car in Adelaide, South Australia, at the end of December at the age of 32 and seriously injured. She died shortly afterwards in hospital.

Dennis reportedly declined to answer questions from reporters on Wednesday. He attended the court hearing in silence, the Australian broadcaster reported ABC. The 33-year-old was arrested after the incident but was released on bail shortly afterwards.

Next hearing in August

The prosecution asked Judge Simon Smart for five more months of investigation time to accurately reconstruct what happened at the end of December. The defense did not object, according to court documents obtained by the German press agency templates.

The next hearing is scheduled for August 6th. The public prosecutor should then confirm the charges. According to the Australian Guardian If found guilty, Dennis could face up to 15 years in prison.
