Pogacar is very close to overall victory

World champion Tadej Pogacar celebrated his third stage victory on the fifth day of the Tour de Romandie.

With a late attack on the final climb, Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Emirates-XRG) won the fourth stage of the 79th Tour de Romandie. Over the 149,6 kilometers from Broc to Charmey, the world champion left the competition behind and crossed the finish line solo. Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) finished second, 14 seconds behind, while Pogacar, with his third stage win, further solidified his lead in the overall standings. Behind the leading duo, a sprint for the remaining places ensued, which Pablo Castrillo (Movistar) won.

At the Jaun Pass, Lipowitz was initially the only rider able to respond to the first increase in pace. However, when Pogacar attacked again shortly afterward, the German was dropped. The final stage of the Romandie Tour is on Sunday, and Pogacar aims to clinch the overall victory upon arrival in Leysin. After four of five stages, the superstar leads the general classification by 35 seconds over Lipowitz, while third-placed Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) is already 2:23 minutes behind.
