Tragedy on the Grossglockner: Professional cyclist dies at Tour of Austria

A tragic accident occurred during the queen stage of the Tour of Austria on Saturday. Norwegian professional cyclist Andrè Dregè died.

The queen stage of the Tour of Austria on Saturday was overshadowed by a fatal accident involving Norwegian professional Andrè Dregè.

According to the organizer, the 25-year-old fell on the descent from the Grossglockner to Heiligenblut and succumbed to his injuries. Details about the accident were not yet known. The stage was won by the Italian Filippo Ganna (Ineos), but the victory ceremony was canceled due to the tragic event.

On the eve of the last stage from Kufstein to Kühtai, it was still unclear whether the tour would continue. The Italian Diego Ulissi (UAE) is leading the overall standings.
