Despite crash injury: Norwegian celebrates first Tour victory

The 26-year-old, who injured his hand in a fall the previous day, held his own on Wednesday after 161 km from Vichy to Nevers with an average speed of 50,91 km/h ahead of the Dutchman Olav Kooij (Decathlon) and the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin).

Waerenskjold prevailed in Nevers after a three-hour high-speed ride and a chaotic sprint, with a bit of luck. He celebrated his first Tour de France stage win. It was the second for his team; last year, Jonas Abrahamsen also triumphed on the eleventh stage.

Pogacar remains unchallenged

The overall standings remained unchanged, with Tadej Pogacar still leading by three and a half minutes ahead of Jonas Vingegaard.

On Thursday, the sprinters are also highly likely to dominate on the route from Magny-Cours to Chalon-sur-Saône. After that, things will get serious again for Pogačar and his teammates in the Vosges Mountains and the Alps.
