Surprise man wins longest tour stage

The Frenchman won the longest section of this year's tour over 208,9 kilometers from Vitoria-Gasteiz to San Sebastian ahead of stars Wout van Aert and two-time tour champion Tadej Pogacar. The British opening winner Adam Yates successfully defended the yellow jersey.

The Dane from the Jumbo-Visma team reacted accordingly calmly, as he is at a disadvantage in a direct duel with Pogacar due to his lack of explosiveness. “The Tour probably won’t be decided by seconds. We are on track,” emphasized the 26-year-old. He sees his chance on the long climbs in the high mountains.

On Monday the tour says goodbye to Spain on the third stage over 193,5 km from Amorebieta-Etxano to Bayonne. Then the sprinters can hope for their first mass arrival.
