The Dutchman is struggling with pneumonia. "Examinations revealed that Mathieu is suffering from pneumonia. In consultation with the medical staff, it was decided that he cannot continue the race. "On Monday, his condition deteriorated significantly. In the evening, he developed a fever. He was therefore taken to the hospital in Narbonne for examinations," said team officials. According to doctors, the 2023 road world champion will need to rest for at least a week.
