Lots of new things at the Giro delle Dolomiti

The press conference to introduce the 46th edition of the stage race began with the welcoming words of the President of the ASD Giro delle Dolomiti, Bettina Ravanelli. The first news that the OC boss highlighted was the more compact formula of the Giro: this year there will be five stages over five days, from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July. Over the five days, the participants in the Giro delle Dolomiti, which is again affiliated with the ACSI this year, will cover 527,5 kilometers with a total altitude difference of 11.501 meters. On all five stages, timed sections alternate with friendly group cycling and a mountain time trial for victory in the overall ranking. The starting point for each stage is at the Bolzano Trade Fair, which will serve as the logistical center of the event, and from there leads into the mountains of Trentino and South Tyrol. “The route of the stages follows routes that are very popular with cyclists,” explained the members of the organizing committee at the press conference. While the first stage leads to the Fiemme Valley and the time trial takes place between Tesero and the Reiteralm, the second stage is entirely dedicated to the Sellaronda. Before the timed section between Selva and Sella Pass, the participants will have lunch together with the Saslong Classic Club, another partner of the Giro delle Dolomiti, which will also present the candidacy for the 2029 Ski World Championships. On the third day, the cyclists take the shuttle bus to Prad am Stilfersjoch, from where they begin the time trial on the Stilfserjoch and cycle across the Münstertal to Glurns. The fourth stage is again dedicated to a well-known pass, the Fedaia Pass. The time trial takes place between Penia and Lake Fedaia at the foot of the Marmolada. The Giro delle Dolomiti ends with the fifth and final stage to Jenesien and Avelengo, with the time trial taking place between Bolzano and Jenesien. Big names are there Among the participants of the Giro delle Dolomiti there will also be some big sporting names, such as Gilberto Simoni, who will most likely take part on the first day in memory of his stage victory at the Giro d'Italia 20 years ago, where he also won on the Reiterjoch. In addition to Simoni, former gymnast jury Chechi and numerous representatives of the event partners will also be pedaling. More than 46 people from all corners of the world have already registered for the 350th Giro delle Dolomiti. “In addition to a large number of Germans, Italians and Austrians, there have also already been registrations from Belgians, Dutch, Spaniards, Colombians and Scandinavians. Last week even some cyclists from Israel, India and the USA registered,” concluded Ravanelli, thanking all institutions, partners and sponsors for their support.
