There were no changes in the overall standings after the 167,8 kilometers from Vegadeo to Monforte de Lemos. Pedersen's compatriot Jonas Vingegaard (Visma) continues to lead by 48 seconds ahead of Joao Almeida.
Meanwhile, a pro-Palestine protest caused another ignominious incident. A good 55 kilometers from the finish, a man leaped from the bushes waving a Palestinian flag. Although he fell just before reaching the road, he also disturbed the passing breakaway group. This caused Spaniard Javier Romo to crash, and another professional rider fell on top of the Movistar rider.
Political debate in Spain
Although numerous demonstrators were again seen in the finish area, it remained peaceful. The Vuelta is disrupted by numerous protests almost daily. The demonstrations are directed in particular against the Israel-Premier Tech team, which is under police protection and has been riding without the "Israel" logo on its jerseys since Saturday. The incidents at the Vuelta have long since sparked a political debate in Spain. Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares recently even advocated excluding the Israeli team, partly to send a message to Israel regarding the Gaza war.
