Two cycling aces leave everyone behind at the Giro delle Dolomiti

In the women's race, the stage win went to the German dominator Julia Jedelhauser, as on the previous day. The fastest man on the timed section from Arabba up to the Pordoi Pass was Colombian Mauricio Cuartas, the same man as at the Giro opener on Monday.

After the second day of the Giro, everything points to a successful title defense. Because, just like on Monday, Julia Jedelhauser put her stamp on the second stage 24 hours later and clearly shook off her pursuers on the timed section, which this time led from Arabba to the Pordoi Pass (7,9 kilometers with 550 meters of elevation). The 36-year-old from Marktoberdorf in Bavaria (27.46 minutes) had a lead of more than one and a half minutes over her compatriot Daniela Kratzer (29.29 minutes), with third place going to Carola Skarabela (31.30), another cyclist from Bavaria. This meant that the top 3 climbed onto the podium in the same line-up as on Monday.

The timed section was a little less steep this time, but at almost eight kilometers long it was still a challenge. Before reaching the chrono start in Arabba, the riders also had to ride through the Val Gardena and Val Badia valleys. Finally, on Tuesday, the famous Sellaronda, the circuit around the Sella massif, was on the agenda. After the chrono, the riders went back to Val Gardena via the Sella Pass and then to the starting point in Ponte Gardena.

Cuartas with a demonstration of power What Julia Jedelhauser is for the women, Mauricio Cuartas seems to be for the men. The Colombian showed an outstanding performance in the second stage and built up a large lead on the climb to the Pordoi Pass. In the end, the 28-year-old from Medellin (21.40 minutes) had an incredible 2.15 minutes lead over second-placed Ralph Ziegaus from Germany (23.55 minutes) - he also came second behind Cuartas on Monday.

This means that the South American, like Jedelhauser, is now clearly in the lead in the overall rankings. Third place in the second stage went to Eduard Rizzi from Sarnen (24.03 minutes), just like on Monday, making him the best “Azzurro” and the strongest South Tyrolean cyclist.

There is no rest day on the agenda for the 47th Giro delle Dolomiti. The next endurance test will take place on Wednesday. This time the race will start in Toblach, then head to Cortina and Lake Misurina before returning to the Puster Valley cross-country skiing mecca. The focus this time is therefore on the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region.
