BSSG Südtirol crowned Italian champion

The South Tyrol Alperia Blind and Visually Impaired Amateur Sports Group (BSSG) celebrated great successes at the decisive match day of the Italian Torball Championship in Reggio Calabria.

South Tyrol 1, with Franz Gatscher, Manfred Wieser, Manuel Ninz, and Peter Mair, achieved an outstanding 3rd place. South Tyrol 2, with Armin Plaikner, Christian Mair, Gabriel Psenner, Markus Stuefer, and Willi Augschöll, were crowned Italian champions. Both teams were coached by Marco Grazioli. This marks the eighth Italian championship title overall for BSSG.

What makes goalball special is that all players wear opaque goggles. This allows blind, visually impaired, and sighted people to participate in the sport together under the same conditions.

Blind sports have held an important place in South Tyrol for more than 50 years. Besides sporting success, the focus is primarily on the motor development of visually impaired people and the social and inclusive benefits.
