The Bolzano fistball players celebrate their first victory of this year's Bundesliga season

The oldest sporting event in South Tyrol is entering its 67th round.

This weekend the International Bolzano Fistball Autumn Tournament will take place for the 67th time. With a total of 21 participating teams from four nations, the oldest sporting event in South Tyrol and the oldest fistball tournament in the world will shine again in its usual size. The third round of the First Austrian Bundesliga, which takes place on the Saturday before the start of the tournament, almost becomes a sideshow.

After their first win of the season last weekend, Bozen Fistball want to stay on the winning road in the Bundesliga. The teams from Grieskirchen and Linz Urfahr will be guests in Bozen on Saturday. “Our goal is to win both games. Only victories count on home turf,” explains assistant coach Florian Runer.

With four points from the next three games, Bozen Faustball would still have a good chance of taking part in the play-off of the best six teams next year. “Linz Urfahr and Grieskirchen are two very experienced and compact teams. We will need our best fistball and a bit of luck to be able to achieve our goals,” explains Florian Runer.

After the two Bundesliga games, which start at 9:00 a.m., the traditional Bolzano autumn tournament starts. “We are very proud to be able to host what is probably the oldest sporting event in South Tyrol and the oldest fistball tournament in the world in Bolzano. This shows what a great tradition this sport has here in Bolzano. With 21 participating teams, we have more participants than we have in many years. “We’re very happy about that and we’re looking forward to exciting games,” said co-organizer Valentin Schwarz.

The 67th International Autumn Tournament starts at 11:00 a.m. at the fistball courts on the Bolzano water wall. The final game takes place on Sunday at 15:00 p.m.
