Barbara Gambaro opened the Olympic Games for South Tyrol on Saturday. In the mixed competition she finished 17th together with Danilo Sollazzo. On Sunday, the individual event was on the program in the 43.000-inhabitant town of Châteauroux near Paris. Here, Gambaro fought with the air rifle over 10 meters for a good placing and for the final qualification of the best 8, which ultimately did not happen.
In this competition, the Vinschgau native had 60 shots to qualify for the final. Ultimately, the 32-year-old reached 626,8th place with a score of 24. The most accurate shooter in the qualification was Hyojin Ban from South Korea (634,5) with an Olympic record. Second place went to Norwegian Jeanette Hegg Duestad (10,553/633,2) ahead of Audrey Gogniat (632,6) from Switzerland.
Gambaro has another chance next Thursday in the 50-meter rifle competition.
Two Azzurri hit the mark
In the men's competition, however, there was reason to celebrate. After three medals on Saturday, the Italian sports shooters won two more medals on Sunday morning. In the 10-meter air pistol competition, two Italians made it to the final on Saturday and played a decisive role in the medal race on Sunday.Federico Nilo Maldini had an excellent day. © Social Media
Both Federico Nilo Maldini and Paolo Monna repeatedly hit the mark on Sunday. In the end, the two were only beaten by the Chinese Yu Xie (240,9), who narrowly beat Maldini for the gold medal. Nevertheless, Maldini's silver medal (240,0) and Monna's bronze medal (218,6) are remarkable achievements. For the first time, two Italians are on the podium together at these Olympic Games in France.
