Inline hockey world championships in Bolzano and Merano

In November 2016, the International Roller Sports Federation (FIRS) chose Italy as the venue for the two world championships. For the Masters (Over 38), it is the eighth World Championships so far, while it is the second edition for the Veterans (Over 45). South Tyrol is also represented in the Azzurri squad with Scelfo, Varotto, Gruber, Stricker and Rizzi.

National teams from all over the world compete in the title fights: Italy, France, Great Britain, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Canada, USA and Slovenia. Just over 500 athletes and coaches traveled to South Tyrol for the title fights.

The national teams started the matches on Tuesday and will be in action until Monday, June 18th. A total of 80 games will take place over the five match days in the “Palaonda” stadium in Bolzano and in the Meranarena in Merano. For the occasion, the two playing areas were equipped with a special floor made of plastic tiles.
