Kalinskaya missed her first chance to reach the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. The world number 18 had to retire in the round of 16 against fourth seed Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan with the score at 3:6 and 0:3.
Jannik Sinner also did not miss this match. The Pusterer watched his girlfriend's match from the stands and had to watch as Kalinskaya was finally unable to continue playing due to increasing pain in her arm. Kalinskaya's physical problems lasted for large parts of the match, meaning that the 25-year-old never really got up to speed.
For Kalinskaya, it would have been her second Grand Slam quarterfinal ever. She made it to the quarterfinals for the first time at the beginning of the year at the Australian Open. Now Kalinskaya can keep her fingers crossed for Sinner in Wimbledon. The world number 1 will be playing on Tuesday (from 14.30 p.m. live on SportNews-Ticker) is back in action – in the quarterfinals against Daniil Medvedev.
