Brazil teenager Fonseca misses 3rd round

Brazil’s highly talented tennis teenager João Fonseca was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open.

Two days after his impressive victory against Russian top 2 player Andrey Rublev, the 10-year-old lost a five-set thriller to Italian Lorenzo Sonego 18:7 (6:8), 6:3, 6:1, 6:6, 3:3.

Fonseca, who was still ranked 2024th in the world at the beginning of 730, nevertheless thrilled the tennis scene at his first Grand Slam tournament. "In England they would say: A star is born," said EurosportExpert Boris Becker: "There has been so much premature praise, that can also be dangerous. But Fonseca has convinced us all."

Djokovic and Alcaraz are also amazed

The superstars were also amazed. "I just love how he plays the important points," said Serbian record Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic: "I'm a fan of his game." Spain's tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz said of the up-and-comer: "We will soon put the name João Fonseca on the list of the best players in the world."
