The weather throws Jannik Sinner's plans into disarray
With his training bag casually slung over his shoulder, Jannik Sinner arrived promptly at 10 a.m. on Wednesday for his first official tennis training session in Monte Carlo. Up until then, everything had been going according to plan.

However, Sinner later had to change his schedule. Persistent rain made the clay courts in the principality unplayable, and the rainfall even increased in the afternoon. This meant that for the world's best tennis player, no more training with rackets and balls, but instead, it was time for the weight room!
Sinner walked into the dry grounds of the Country Club, where workers are still dismantling the stands from the recently concluded ATP tournament, and then worked on his fitness. The 23-year-old from Sexten was supposed to have completed his first court practice in exactly 66 days. He has been officially allowed to do so since Sunday.
Next attempt on Thursday
With rain expected in Monte Carlo over the next few days, Sinner and his support staff may well have to expand their alternative program. On Wednesday, coach Simone Vagnozzi and fitness coach Marco Panichi accompanied him to the Country Club – under the watchful eyes of the journalists and camera crews present. Together, they aim to lay the foundation for a successful return to the ATP Tour.Simone Vagnozzi (l.) and Jannik Sinner plan to train at the Country Club over the next few days—as shown in this archive photo. © Instagram
Sinner will make his comeback at the Internazionali d'Italia in Rome on May 9 or 10. Until then, he is suspended from all ATP tournaments. After that, the world number one will appear in Hamburg and Roland Garros.
