He has been going through hell for months and yet he is the best

Jannik Sinner has done it again. The undisputed best tennis player of the present day has written the next chapter of his success story, defending his title at the Australian Open in a convincing manner and clearly defeating his current closest rival Alexander Zverev in the final. He is 3695 points ahead of the world number 2 in the world rankings. On February 10th he will equal Carlos Alcaraz's mark of 36 weeks at number 1 and surpass it a week later. Sinner is as dominant as the "Big Three" in their best times, who won 66 Grand Slam titles between them.

Sinner has only won 3 of them, but he did it within a year. Since the beginning of 2024, he has won 80 of 86 matches. On hard courts, he is almost untouchable. On his favorite surface, his track record is even more impressive, with 60:3 wins. He has been undefeated for 21 matches. Jannik Sinner is a phenomenon on the court and South Tyrol's greatest athlete of all time.

At the age of 23, he has smashed all Italian tennis records and many people have already secured his place in the hall of fame of his sport. But Jannik always stresses that he is not there to set personal bests. He simply loves playing tennis. And to do so as perfectly and as well as possible. Unlike some of his rivals, he does everything he can to be the best. That has to be appreciated.

The picture gets to him, and he reacts coolly The tennis court, where he feels comfortable and safe, has also become his refuge, because for the past 10 months he has been going through hell despite all his sporting successes. Although he was acquitted in August after two positive doping tests last March, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed and demanded a ban of one to two years. Two days before the start of the tournament in Melbourne, the date for the hearing before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in mid-April was announced. Perfect timing to unsettle Sinner.

Germany's newspaper with the four big letters took him to task before the final. But this 4-year-old has built "the best team in the world" around himself, clearly doesn't let anything get to him and is so mentally strong. He fights against all adversities, wears down his opponents on the pitch with his tactical intelligence and playing strength. But he also has the greatness to console his defeated opponent in the final. Jannik Sinner is a very special champion.
