For the first time in her career: Zheng is in the semi-finals

The Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska has qualified for the semi-finals of the Australian Open – and will meet Zheng Qinwen there. Both players have never been to a Grand Slam semi-final before.

The 23-year-old Yastremska beat 19-year-old Czech Linda Noskova with 6:3,6:4. Yastremska is the first qualifier in 46 years to reach the semi-finals “down under”. There on Thursday she met the Chinese Zheng Qinwen, who was number twelve.

She prevailed in the first match of the evening session against the Russian Anna Kalinskaya after losing the first set with 6:7(4),6:4,6:1. Zheng is in a major semi-final for the first time and is the favorite there. The world rankings 15. can definitely be happy about reaching a milestone, as she is determined to be the new top ten player regardless of how the tournament progresses.
