Indian Wells: Swiatek storms into the final

World number one Iga Swiatek lived up to her role as favorite and reached the final of the tennis tournament in Indian Wells.

In the semi-finals, the 22-year-old Pole defeated Marta Kostjuk 6:2 and 6:1 on Friday (local time), thus stopping the 21-year-old Ukrainian's winning streak. Swiatek now has the chance to win the Masters for the second time after 2022 and to draw level with Steffi Graf, among others.

Like two years ago, the opponent in the duel for victory at the prestigious tournament in California is Maria Sakkari. The number nine in the world rankings from Greece prevailed after 2:41 hours in a hard-fought semi-final against Coco Gauff from the USA with 6:4, 6:7 (5:7) and 6:2.

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals (21.30 p.m. on Saturday).
