ITF Tour: Meliss wins clay court tournament

The South Tyrolean tennis weekend ended with a final victory not only for Jannik Sinner at the US Open. Verena Meliss was also able to celebrate a tournament victory.

Verena Meliss has won the ITF tournament in Fiano Romano. The woman from Caldaro won the final against Samira De Stefano (ITA) 6:4, 6:7 (2:7), 6:4. However, the South Tyrolean, who is ranked 621st in the WTA rankings, had to fight for a long time. Meliss, who was seeded number 1 in Fiano Romano, missed a match point in the second set before her opponent secured it in the tie-break.

Things didn't go as planned for Meliss in the third set either, as the Caldaro player again missed 3 (!) match points. In the end, the South Tyrolean was able to convert her 5th match point and snatch victory in the $7 clay court tournament.
