No title defense: Sinner cancels for Vienna

Jannik Sinner is currently competing in the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, but the tennis year is slowly but surely coming to an end. The Sextner will definitely not be playing in Vienna this year.

Sinner could still play in Beijing until Wednesday, because the final is scheduled for that time in China's capital. After that, the South Tyrolean will stay in the Middle Kingdom, because Sinner is registered for the Masters in Shanghai from October 2 to 13. After that, the 23-year-old will play in the invitational tournament in Riyadh (October 16 to 19).

Sinner then cancelled his participation in the tournament in the Vienna Stadthalle. As last year's winner, the world number 1 would have 500 points to defend there. But Sinner's lead in the world rankings over Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz is now over 4.000 points. In this respect, Sinner can afford it. The Sextner can only theoretically be pushed out of the top spot by the end of the year anyway.

Sinner instead wants to focus on the Masters in Paris-Bercy (28 October to 3 November), the ATP Finals in Turin (10 to 17 November) and the Davis Cup Finals (November 19 to 24). After that, the tennis year 2024 will be over. For Sinner, it was already a magical one.
