Three games, three wins, not a single set loss: Jannik Sinner plays great at the first Masters tournament of the season in the California desert. Also the American super talent Ben Shelton couldn't do anything against the number 3 in the world.

Now Sinner is in the quarter-finals, where he will face the Czech surprise man Jiri Lehecka. The Sesto native wants to celebrate their 19th success in a row there. “I don’t take things like that for granted,” said Sinner humbly after the Shelton match.

Praise for the Djokovic conqueror

One of the topics was also at the press conference his young colleague Luca Nardi. The 20-year-old Italian burst into the limelight completely unexpectedly in Indian Wells when he sensationally knocked Novak Djokovic out of the tournament. “When you beat number 1 in your first meeting, it’s an indescribable feeling,” says Sinner about the world number 123.

“I know Luca quite well. He was supposed to train with me in the off-season this year, but he injured his ankle on the second day. He has incredibly great talent and I hope that he can continue to show his good tennis in the future. My gut feeling is that we’ll be hearing a lot more from him.”

These are strong words from Sinner, who is aiming for his third title in his third tournament of the year in Indian Wells. And who could rise to number 2 in the world in California.
