Sinner in Paris: The hard bits wait later

The second big highlight of the season in the tennis circuit begins on Sunday. Then the French Open will take place in Paris. Jannik Sinner was lucky this time and faces achievable tasks in the first rounds.

Sinner is seeded eighth at the second Grand Slam tournament of the year. This has a big advantage: a clash with better-ranked players is out of the question until the quarter-finals. Then – with the exception of sensations – the current number 2 in the world, Daniil Medvedev, would be waiting. The Russian won the Masters tournament in Rome just last week.

However, that is a thing of the future. First, Sinner has to survive four rounds. The Sesto native cannot complain about his opponents, at least in the first two rounds. At the start, Sinner will face the Frenchman Alexandre Müller, who is currently ranked 100th on the ATP computer and is primarily active in the Challenger area. The Pusterer would then meet the winner of the duel Daniel Altmaier (Germany, ATP 72) against Marc-Andrea Hüsler (Switzerland, ATP 81).

The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 33) would probably wait in the third round, while a duel with Alexander Zverev (ATP 27) awaits in the round of XNUMX. The Hamburg player is not yet his old self after his ankle injury and has now fallen back in the rankings. On a good day, the former US Open finalist is a tough nut to crack for every player in the world.

Sinner experienced a bitter French Open in 2022

Last year Sinner had to swallow a bitter pill in Paris. In the round of 16 he initially delivered a gala performance against Andrey Rublev before he had to give up due to physical problems. It is not yet clear when exactly the South Tyrolean will play his first round match. In any case, the first games of the main draw will take place on Sunday.
