“I know that many people came here because of Alex. That’s why I want to thank all the fans for their fairness,” were Jannik Sinner’s first words after reaching the semi-finals. The South Tyrolean received a lot of applause in the Rod Laver Arena, including from the Australian audience. However, there were also a few Sinner fans among the 15.000 spectators who made themselves heard during the match.
Afterwards, Sinner commented on the match against De Minaur: "Today was one of those days where everything went smoothly. Alex and I know each other very well, we've often played against each other. I'm very happy with my performance." When asked why he was so fit again after his physical breakdown in the round of 16, Sinner said: "When you're young, you recover quickly. And I haven't done much in the last few days."

Sinner can get a lot out of the late-night games in Melbourne, as he revealed: "You can sleep in and prepare well for the match throughout the day." Sinner will be back in action in the Rod Laver Arena on Friday evening. That's when the semi-final against the American Ben Shelton, who won against Lorenzo Sonego, is scheduled.
Sinner also commented on the thrilling quarter-final duel between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz: "That was an exciting match. Such duels should actually take place in the final or semi-final, not in the quarter-final. I don't want to make a prediction about how the semi-final between Djokovic and Zverev will turn out. But it will certainly be a tough match for both of them."
