On paper it was a game that promised to be exciting. Here Jannik Sinner, number 8 in the world, there is the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, who occupied exactly that position in the world ranking two and a half years ago and is now at number 37. But in the end, the fans on Court Rainier III saw a duel that couldn't have been more one-sided: Sinner was leading 6-0, 3-1 when Schwartzman gave up.

Sinner had enjoyed a bye in the first round, but now his opening match in round 2 was also a better training session. It was obvious that Schwartzman was physically weak. There is no other explanation for his appearance. 17 minutes had passed and Sinner was already 5-0 ahead. One hair-raising mistake by the Argentine followed the next; he hit balls into the net unchallenged, repeatedly made double faults and acted more frustrated from point to point. Apparently he had a problem with his left shoulder (Schwartzman is right-handed), which is why he was briefly treated by a physiotherapist.

That didn't change the fact that Sinner won the first set 6-0. Schwartzman won his first game right at the start of the second set, but that was just a drop in the ocean. The gameplay remained the same. Sinner simply had to return the balls before his opponent made a mistake at some point. When the 21-year-old made it 42-3 after 1 minutes, his Argentine opponent - who appeared physically but also mentally weak - redeemed himself and gave up.

Now Hurkacz is waiting Sinner has saved a lot of money and can go into the round of 13 match fully rested. He is expected to meet his Polish friend Hubert Hurkacz there on Thursday. Sinner will certainly be more challenged against number XNUMX in the world.
