Tennis icon Billie Jean King immortalized in Hollywood

American tennis icon Billie Jean King has been honored with a star on the famous “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood.

"In her legendary tennis career, King was ranked No. 1 in the world six times and won 39 Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, including a record 20 Wimbledon titles," the organizers in Los Angeles said. She also had a major impact as a champion of women's rights.

The 81-year-old received the 2807th star on the promenade in the US West Coast metropolis. The "Walk of Fame" has been honoring stars, primarily from show business, since 1960. The section on Hollywood Boulevard where the star-shaped plaques are installed runs right through the center of Hollywood.
