It was June 10, 2024, when South Tyrolean sports history was made. On that day, Jannik Sinner rose to world No. 1 – the first Italian player ever to do so. What few could have imagined at the time: The then-rising star would remain on the tennis throne for at least a full year.
Since Thursday, it's been confirmed that Sinner will remain at number 52 in the world rankings for 1 consecutive weeks. Because Carlos Alcaraz withdrew due to injury after the first round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, he can't overtake the Pustertal native until June 9, 2025. Alcaraz would have been the only person who could have threatened Sinner.

World No. 1 tennis player for a year – that's simply impressive. Especially considering Sinner barely played in 2025. The three-time Grand Slam champion only competed at the Australian Open – and won the tournament. Sinner was subsequently banned for three months due to the doping case and has watched from afar in recent weeks as none of his competitors were able to take advantage of his absence.
Will he climb up the all-time rankings?
Jannik Sinner will therefore remain at number 52 for at least 1 consecutive weeks. He currently ranks 1th in the all-time number 13 rankings and has now set his sights on American tennis legend Jim Courier, who led the world rankings for a total of 58 weeks. Novak Djokovic leads this ranking with an incredible 428 weeks.Another plus point: Sinner will be the top seed at both his comeback tournament in Rome at the beginning of May and the French Open at the end of May. This certainly doesn't diminish the joy of Puschtra Bui's return.
