title premiere for the Olympic champion

Czech Tomas Machac reached a milestone in his career on Sunday. The mixed doubles Olympic champion from Paris bagged his first title on the ATP Tour in Acapulco, Mexico.

After six titles on the ATP Challenger Tour and the Olympic gold medal at the Summer Games in Paris alongside his Czech compatriot Katerina Siniakova, Tomas Machac has finally won a title on the ATP Tour. The 24-year-old won the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco in two sets against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (7:6, 6:2).


On the way to the final, Machac had defeated the German Daniel Altmaier (7:6, 6:1), the American Learner Tien (6:3, 7:5) and his compatriot Brandon Nakashima (6:4, 1:6, 6:4), among others. Davidovich-Fokina, meanwhile, eliminated Frances Tiafoe (6:3, 6:7, 6:3) and Denis Shapovalov (7:6, 7:6).
