The next South Tyroleans will get their Olympic ticket

South Tyrol's Olympic delegation is getting bigger: On Wednesday it was announced that table tennis players Deborah Vivarelli and Giorgia Piccolin will also be traveling to the Summer Games in Paris.

The opening ceremony will take place in Paris in just over a month. Right in the middle: Deborah Vivarelli and Giorgia Piccolin, who found out about their nomination on Wednesday. The two South Tyroleans, who are ranked 84th and 60th in the world rankings, have each earned a ticket for the individual competition. While these are the 31-year-old Vivarelli's second Olympic Games after Tokyo, the 28-year-old Piccolin is celebrating her debut in the adult category. In 2014, she already took part in the Youth Games in Nanjing.

"This is a day of great joy for our association because the long hunt for the Olympic ticket has come to a good end for Giorgia and Debora," says the president of the table tennis association FITeT Renato Di Napoli. "We are happy that their sacrifices have been crowned with success. Their presence in Paris is great news for the entire movement. I am sure that this result will also be an incentive for the other athletes to increase their efforts to achieve the same goal in the next edition."

Great joy

Vivarelli reacted to the news with joy, posting a picture on social media and writing: "Oui Paris". In Tokyo, the woman from Caldaro lost in the first round, but this year things should go better. The table tennis competitions begin on July 27th and end on August 3rd.
