Table Tennis World Championships: Piccolin and Co. advance as group winners

Italy's women's table tennis team completed their strong preliminary round at the World Championships in London without a single loss. The Azzurre also secured a clear 3-0 victory against Argentina, thus advancing to the round of 32 as group winners.

Particularly pleasing from a South Tyrolean perspective: Giorgia Piccolin once again delivered a commanding performance. The South Tyrolean, currently ranked 104th in the world, gave Ana Codina no chance and won her singles match convincingly 3-0. Piccolin demonstrated remarkable composure, especially in the tight second set, where she prevailed 13-11 before securing the victory in the third set.

Gaia Monfardini had previously put Italy on course with a 3-1 victory against Camila Arguelles. Nicole Arlia then sealed the win, also securing a comfortable 3-0 victory against Luciana Frias.

The Azzurre had previously defeated Croatia and Turkey. Debora Vivarelli from Bolzano did not play in the group stage.
