The Olympics are a time for big dreams, and Debora Vivarelli also had high hopes for her second participation. After being eliminated in the first round in Tokyo in 2021, the 31-year-old wanted to overcome that hurdle this time. But after the draw on Wednesday, it became clear that this would be a difficult undertaking. Vivarelli faced the tournament's number 3, Hina Hayata, in the first round and ultimately had no chance against her.
Vivarelli's Olympic adventure in Paris lasted just 24 minutes. The player from Kaltern simply had no chance against the overwhelming Japanese. Hayata played point after point at breakneck speed and won clearly in four sets with 11:1, 11:3, 11:4 and 11:5. Vivarelli could hardly do anything against the Japanese. Despite the early exit, Paris 2024 remains a success for Vivarelli, because participation in the games alone was uncertain for a long time.
Hopes rest on Piccolin
In addition to Vivarelli, 28-year-old Giorgia Piccolin from Bolzano is also taking part in the Olympic table tennis tournament. On Monday at 13.00 p.m. she will face Miu Hirano from Japan, number 13 in the world.Edit Profile
