On Saturday the 24th edition of the International Kalterersee Triathlon

The former KSV president Hubert Andergassen and Paul Sparer brought this then still exotic sport to Überetsch in 1988. The event was a huge success and is now an integral part of the South Tyrolean sports calendar.

Around 600 athletes will take part again on Saturday. The participant limit imposed by the organizing committee has already been reached in the past few weeks, forcing the organizer to reject numerous further requests. “With 600 starts, we have fully utilized our capacity,” announced OK boss Werner Maier.

The start at the Lido in Kaltern takes place on Saturday at 14 p.m. The water temperature is currently 17 degrees. After 1,5 km in the lake, the athletes switch to the bike. Here they have to cover 40 km, and the race is completed after 10 km of running. For the men, Maier expects a winning time of 1:55 hours. Unfortunately, last year's winner Daniel Hofer is not there. The man from Bolzano is fighting for an Olympic ticket at the World Cup in Mexico this weekend. Nevertheless, the field of participants is impressive. Among the men, the “Azzurri” Massimo De Ponti (1987), Andrea D'Acquino (1979) and Giulio Molinari (1988) are among the favorites, while among the women the Austrian Renate Forstner, winner in 2008, has the best chance to climb onto the winner's podium. A dozen nations will take part, including Russia and Spain. This year's Kalterersee triathlon, which is also considered a state championship, will be broadcast on Rai Sport.
