No top finishes at the World Championship race in Sardinia

A triathlon world championship race took place in Alghero, Sardinia, on Saturday. Two athletes from South Tyrol were among those competing for a good result.

However, a top finish eluded her on Saturday. In the Olympic distance race (1,5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), Verena Steinhauser finished 26th among the women – last year she finished 27th in Alghero.

In the women's race, France's Cassandre Beaugrand took first place with a time of 1.53,49:2:3. Great Britain's Beth Potter (+4 seconds) and West Germany's Lisa Tertsch (+9 seconds) finished second and third, respectively.

De Nigro will be the best Azzurro

In the men's race, the young Brixen native Euan De Nigro was the best Italian, finishing in 17th place. He was 2 minutes and 11 seconds behind the winner, Vasco Vilaca (Portugal). Brazilian Miguel Hidalgo (+19 seconds) and Portuguese Ricardo Batista (+29 seconds) followed behind.
