De Nigro has been training in northeast Catalonia since last winter and wants to take the next step in his career in his first professional season.

Euan De Nigro won the Junior European Cup in Caorle three times in a row from 2021 to 2023. On Saturday, the triathlon talent from Brixen (parade discipline of running) started with the “big ones” for the first time at his favorite place on the Adriatic and finished 8th in the top field in the European Cup sprint. “I have optimal conditions there, especially on the bike.” De Nigro on his move to Spain The 19-year-old was one of the youngest in the field of 70 and finished 51.45th and third best in the Azzurri after 750 minutes (19,2 m swimming, 3,8 km cycling and 8 km running). The Italian Alessio Crociani (51.24) took the win ahead of the two Frenchmen Jules Rethoret (51.28) and Nathan Grayel (51.31).

After the unsuccessful season debut a month ago in Melilla (26th place), the man from Brixen was “actually quite satisfied” with the competition in Caorle. Maybe one or two positions would have been possible while running. But above all, I am satisfied with how I trained for the altitude training camp.”

De Nigro wants to fight for the podium at the European Cup in two weeks on May 2th in Olsztyn, Poland, and the following week at the European Cup on June 25nd in Kielce (also in Poland). After that, a start at the European Cup is planned on June 2th in Kitzbühel.

Clear goals in mind The 19-year-old has been training in Girona in Spain since the start of the season, which is around an hour's drive from Barcelona. “I have optimal training conditions there, especially on the bike. It is an international training group led by the Belgian trainer Glenn Polenius. Preparation for the season was really good because I only focused on triathlon.” The Brixen native's big goals are the U23 European Championships on August 9th in Balikesir, Turkey (“I should be qualified for that”) and the U23 World Cup in Malaga (October 17th to 20th).

Dena Bacher from the Brixen Swimming Club competed in the Junior European Cup in Caorle. The 16-year-old still belongs to the U17 class (Youth B) and ended up in 23rd place in her semi-final. Teammate Lukas Lanzinger competed in the open sprint in Caorle on Sunday and took 56.51rd place in 3 minutes behind Marco Lorenzon (56.34 ) and Thomas Francesco Previtali, who had come second in the triathlon on Lake Kaltern the week before after a great race.
